Automatic activation devices (AADs) are a critical safety component in personnel and cargo airdrop operations, designed to deploy a reserve parachute when manual deployment is not possible. Conventional AAD control units are limited to triggering an individual single-use cutter based solely on altitude or a timer.
Earthly Dynamics’ new AAD control unit, Aegis, expands these capabilities with a compact, lightweight design that supports two independent AAD channels that can trigger on altitude, a timer, or remotely through a radio. These enhanced features enable more complex rigging configurations and the potential for reusable AAD cutting units. The system is fully compatible with conventional explosive based AADs and hot wire cutter AADs. Aegis is both rechargeable and capable of operating for multiple days on a single charge. An Android app is available for configuration, system diagnostics, radio communication, and flight data review.
